Readings Nelson Burbank Passes Away - Reading, MA Patch

Burbank, a longtime resident of Reading, passed away at his home on Thursday, Aug. 29. He was 98 years of age. Mr. Burbank was born on September 16, 1920 in Winchester, the son of Willis H. and Vivian (Casson) Burbank. In his hometown of Reading, Mr. Burbank was active in various philanthropic projects including the Burbank Ice Arena and the Burbank YMCA. In 1946 Mr. Burbank joined the investment firm of Vance Sanders and Company under the G.I. Bill of Rights, where he attended Boston University in the morning and studied investments in the afternoon. In 1953 he founded Nelson S. Burbank Company, Inc. with offices in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Burbank and Co. Inc. was acquired by the investment firm A.G. Edwards and Sons of St. Lewis, Missouri in 1982, now Wells Fargo Advisors. Mr. Burbank served as a consultant to Colonial Investments Services from 1983 to 1986 when he retired. He was formerly Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Boston Stock Exchange, Chairman of the NASD District 13 Business Conduct Committee for upper New York State and New England, and served 3 years on the Board of Governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers. He was also president of the Bond Club of Boston. At various times he served on the Board of Directors of Burbank and Company Inc., A.G. Edwards and Sons, Massbank Corporation, Health Insurance of Vermont, and New England Digital Corp.Mr. Burbank served in the Army Air Force during WW II in the first B29 Bomb Wing. He flew 33 missions as a remote central fire control gunner over China, Burma, India and Japan and survived a crash landing in India. Among his decorations he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters. Seventh annual South Side Street Party is coming Sept. 14 - South Pittsburgh Reporter

Street alongside Armstrong Park. The party is dependent upon neighbors bringing potluck dishes to share with others. Organizers ask residents to consider cooking or baking one of their family's specialties and contributing it to the event between 3-5 p.m. All those who bring a home cooked dish will be eligible to win prizes given away at the event. Folks are also asked to bring their own drinks.The event starts at 3 p.m. The Riverhounds Street Team will be there to conduct a "Soccer Skills Challenge" with prizes. Live music, a bounce house, face painting and a balloon artist will be featured starting at 3:30 p.m. The Pittsburgh Mounted Patrol Unit expects to attend and the city firefighters will be happy to share their firetruck with curious children.Get out and toss around some bean bags at the street party's first ever Cornhole Tournament held in Armstrong Park. Get to know your neighbors, while competing and having fun. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Check-in starts at 3 p.m. Tournament starts at 4 p.m.According to organizers, the purpose of the party is to bring neighbors together to promote a more cohesive and friendly community. ROBERT D. DUNLOP - Burlington County Times

Dunlop Robert D. "Bob" Dunlop, formerly of Shamong, N.J., passed away peacefully March 6, 2019, in Boise, Idaho, after a long illness. He was 72. Bob was born in Camden, N.J. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served in the 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles, where he was wounded in battle and received a Purple Heart. After serving three years in the service, he was honorably discharged. He joined the New Jersey State Police in 1970. After graduating the State Police Academy, he began his career at the Woodstown Barracks in Salem County, N.J. Bob rose through the ranks reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. While serving in the New Jersey State Police he received his Bachelor's degree from Stockton University and his Master's degree from Seton Hall University. After 30 years of service, Bob retired in 2000 and opened his own business as a private investigator. A short time later, he took a position of Director of Security at Commerce Bank in Mt. Laurel, N.J. When Commerce Bank was bought out by TD Bank, Bob stayed on as Director of Security. After 10 years, he retired from the bank and he, his wife, Mary, daughter Amy, and son, Mark, moved to Boise, Idaho, until Bob's death. Bob was the devoted husband of Mary (Swoyer). He was the beloved father of Matthew (Kaileen Brennan), Amy Dunlop and Mark Dunlop. He was the loving brother of James Dunlop (Ann), and stepbrother of Judith Faulkner (Walter). He is also survived by members of the Swoyer family, including many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 21, and again from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, at the Healey Funeral Home, 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, N.J. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 4th Avenue and Kings Highway, Haddon Heights.
